EPA BUDGET HISTORIES

The following graphs show the changes in funding levels for the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Interior. Funding levels for both agencies dropped sharply at the start of the Reagan administration, held steady for much of the 1980’s and 1990’s, and jumped in 2009 at the start of the Obama administration (when government spending grew in response to the fiscal crisis). To date, the Trump administration has not succeeded in reducing the agency budgets as much as it has proposed.
